Abstract: The effects of trapping on the nonlinear properties of dust-acoustic waves in an unmagnitized collisionless self-gravitating plasma were studied by treating the ions to be Maxwellian, the dust to be cold and the electrons to be degenerate. The effect of trapping and the gravitational potential on the nonlinear structures was investigated by employing the Sagdeev potential approach, which shows that the features of solitary wave structures are affected by changes in Mach number as well as ion temperature and other physical parameters of the system. Modulational stability analysis is also presented, and the regions of stability and instability are discussed.
